Tim read law at Bristol University and took his Law Society Finals at the College of Law in Guildford. He was then articled to specialist entertainment law practice Steven Fisher & Co and qualified as a solicitor in 1990.Throughout his career, Tim has advised upon all aspects of copyright and trademark law with particular emphasis on litigation. He has conducted litigation in the Court of Appeal, High Court, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, County Court and well as arbitration and mediation on behalf of artists and managers as well as record and publishing companies, photographers, PR companies, film and television companies.

As well as disputes over contracts, partnership, audits, infringement of copyrights patents and trademarks, breach of confidence, defamation and share valuation; his experience includes obtaining of emergency injunctions, delivery up orders, search and seizure orders. In addition Tim has a wealth of experience in non-contentious matters, advising on contractual and business affairs across the breadth of the entertainment industries.

Christy qualified in 1996 having trained at the Simkins Partnership. Her legal training built on commercial experience of the music industry gained working for artist management, PR firms and record labels.

Since qualifying she has developed a broad talent based practice advising performing artists from all musical genres and at all stages of their career. Christy specialises in non-contentious copyright work, negotiating on behalf of rights owners and those providing creative services within the music and broadcast industries.
Her clients include singers, songwriters, producers, DJs, presenters, and content creators across all forms of media. She has also been retained by independent record labels and publishing companies to provide business affairs support in relation to rights acquisition and third party label and sub-publishing arrangements.
A founding partner of NMD Solicitors since 2004 Christy now works from the Teddington Office and from home.

Northrop McNaughtan Deller is a niche firm of solicitors specialising in intellectual property within the entertainment and related industries.
It was set up by the three partners Tim Northrop, Christy McNaughtan and Martin Deller in 2004. Prior to founding the firm the Partners all had a background of experience working as solicitors in the entertainment industry.

Martin comes from a family of professional musicians and recording artists. He studied law at Newcastle University and the University of Kent.
In his music practice, as well as representing several Platinum selling artists and songwriters, and Grammy winning Producers and Mixers Martin also represents small independent labels. He also advises both talent and independent companies across the wider entertainment industry.
In recent years he has built up a growing Social Media practice advising talent and agencies on high value influencer and sponsorship agreements and advising on the regulatory compliance.
Martin also acts for a number of musical Theatre producers and composers of West End and Broadway productions and independent film and Television companies and talent.
