Tim read law at Bristol University and took his Law Society Finals at the College of Law in Guildford. He was then articled to specialist entertainment law practice Steven Fisher & Co and qualified as a solicitor in 1990.Throughout his career, Tim has advised upon all aspects of copyright and trademark law with particular emphasis on litigation. He has conducted litigation in the Court of Appeal, High Court, Intellectual Property Enterprise Court, County Court and well as arbitration and mediation on behalf of artists and managers as well as record and publishing companies, photographers, PR companies, film and television companies.
As well as disputes over contracts, partnership, audits, infringement of copyrights patents and trademarks, breach of confidence, defamation and share valuation; his experience includes obtaining of emergency injunctions, delivery up orders, search and seizure orders. In addition Tim has a wealth of experience in non-contentious matters, advising on contractual and business affairs across the breadth of the entertainment industries.

Christy’s first degree was in English at Bristol University. She then worked in the music industry for PR, management and record labels before deciding to retrain as lawyer and qualifying at the Simkins Partnership in 1996.
Following a period of secondment to Sony Music legal department, she moved to Marriot Harrison acting for clients in the software, film and broadcast industries before then moving to Searles Solicitors in 1997 to focus on music. She became partner in 2004 setting up her own practice with colleagues Martin Deller and Tim Northrop.
Christy represents performing artists from all musical genres, writers, producers, managers, promoters, agents and publishers and is currently retained by an independent record label and publishing company for on-going business affairs advice.
Northrop McNaughtan Deller is a niche firm of solicitors specialising in intellectual property within the entertainment and related industries.
It was set up by the three partners Tim Northrop, Christy McNaughtan and Martin Deller in 2004. Prior to founding the firm the Partners all had a background of experience working as solicitors in the entertainment industry.

Martin comes from a family of professional musicians and recording artists. He studied law at Newcastle University and the University of Kent.
In his music practice, as well as representing several Platinum selling artists and songwriters, and Grammy winning Producers and Mixers Martin also represents small independent labels. He also advises both talent and independent companies across the wider entertainment industry.
In recent years he has built up a growing Social Media practice advising talent and agencies on high value influencer and sponsorship agreements and advising on the regulatory compliance.
Martin also acts for a number of musical Theatre producers and composers of West End and Broadway productions and independent film and Television companies and talent.

Steven is a very experienced music and media lawyer. On qualification his first position was at RCA Records where he contracted David Bowie and The Kinks. In the mid-seventies he headed his own niche music firm which represented numerous household names including the Sex Pistols, Generation X, The Human League, Roxy Music and Bryan Ferry, U2 , The Corrs and the composer of Riverdance
In 2003 Steven became a partner in Steeles Law, a large provincial firm, setting up their music & media team in London where he commenced his enduring associations with AIM and The Musicians Union as well as bringing his roster of clients to the firm.
Steven is experienced in music financing and music catalogue sales and acquisitions . He is also a qualified mediator
Steven joined Northrop McNaughtan Deller in October 2009 as a Consultant, resuming his association with Tim Northrop.
